First they came …

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out
—because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out
—because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
—because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me
—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

    One of the most important quotes of the 20th century. If we don’t watch out for everyone then we all are in trouble.

      Exactly! Precisely why we can’t continue to deny anyone their rights as human beings. Things need to change in this country! We need to be a shining example to the rest of the world. Instead, we’ve become a country to be looked at with pity, and a “see, that’s what we don’t want to become” attitude.

    Chilling. Simply, chilling.

        I wish they had better emoticons, ’cause after looking at this again, it almost looks like it’s laughing, and it’s supposed to be more of “nodding in agreement”. Guess I should use my words more often, instead of being lazy. Sorry.

    IF only everyone can remember and follow the Golden Rule… I was laughing so hard at the first vid, but towards the end I was crying. The 2nd one I couldn’t finish because I got chills down my spine…

      The reality of it really sinks in about halfway through, doesn’t it. Makes you think about what could happen if we continue down this road.

    It’s sad, really…that’s we’ve come to this. Self destruction.

    Reminds me of the Handmaidens Tale. Where does it all end?

      Scary as that is, it’s what I fear will happen if we let certain people have control of our government. Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

    I have to tell you that with everything that’s going on in the US, that quote has really hit home. I printed it out and will post it in my store..

    I had a conversation with my godson, a former US Marine, who’s views of the world are greatly dictated by his age and lack of “real” life experience.

    I told him that yes, he served his country and went to war but there are a whole lot of other people that are fighting for this country .. and the ideals that it was founded on.. just as hard only with their voices and votes.. not with guns.

    It’s a very scary time.. one that could either see my country rise above or fall so low that it will never recover.

    I didn’t get to watch the videos yet because I have to take my youngest stepson to school but I will as soon as I get the chance

    Great post..

      I’m happy to know that you “set him straight” about fighting for our country. Hopefully the Marine Corp. doesn’t jade him too much to the realities of fighting in our country … the ones that don’t involve violence. That quote has been one of my favorites for a long time. It was true when it was written, and it’s still true now. The original dates back to 1946. Let me know what you think of the videos, when you get a chance to watch them. And thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂
